The Beach

Samara is located 150 miles from San Jose on a paved road. The drive takes about 5 hours. Two airlines offer daily flights to the adjacent village of Carrillo. We can assist you with flight reservations. There is also bus service from San Jose and numerous taxis available once in Samara. Fenix Hotel - On The Beach is located one mile south of Samara heading towards Carrillo.

Samara is a town with numerous restaurants, including typical Costa Rican, German, Italian, Spanish, and French cuisine. There are several small grocery stores, lounges and gift shops within Samara proper. From our hotel, Samara is a short ten minute walk on the beach.

About the weather:  During the dry season the weather is absolutely perfect, but don’t let a little rain keep you away during our brief  "green season". The northwest coast of Guanacaste is considered Costa Rica's dry zone, with the green season not starting until the end of May. Luckily, Playa Samara remains exceptionally dry even during these few months. Why visit during the "green season"?   Experience the thrill of a "tropical rainshower", which may occur in the afternoon, after beautiful, clear and sunny mornings. Also take advantage of the low season rates and wide open beaches, thanks to fewer tourists.

The landscape is lush, with vibrant greens and gorgeous flowers in bloom. When was the last time you took an afternoon siesta?  Walked or swam in a warm summer rain?  Read an entire book?
